Dopo 10 anni dalla fine della stagione 3, nel 1889 i residenti passati e presenti di Deadwood si riuniscono per celebrare l'ingresso imminente del Sud Dakota negli Stati Uniti come quarantesimo stato.

La critica ha apprezzato il tv movie. Per The Hollywood Reporter il film “pone fine allo show e non diminuisce né brucia la qualità della serie tv”. Per il The New York Times “non può, nella sua breve corsa, ricreare la piena gloria della serie, ma offre a quella gloria un brindisi malinconico”. La serie è andata in onda dal 2004 al 2006, mescolando personaggi fittizi ad altri esistiti.
